This post will offer five different scenarios to help the reader decide whether to invest in a new laptop now, or whether it is better to wait for the supply chains disrupted by the pandemic to recover.
Over the past few months, there has been an unprecedented demand for laptops in Ukraine , since amid the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, a huge number of people have switched to work from home.
It is generally accepted that notebooks continue to balance power and compactness in the best possible way, giving the user the ability to work reliably and productively away from the workplace.
The inevitable consequence of this growth in demand for laptops has been supply chain disruptions, especially given the fact that in a number of countries their production has been practically stopped due to COVID-19.
Therefore, a logical question arises: is it worth buying a laptop right now?
The answer to this question will depend on a number of variables, but the authors of this publication have tried to work out five main possible scenarios.
Scenario 1: You have no laptop or PC
This is perhaps the most obvious reason for buying a new laptop right now. If you used a PC at work, and at home only used a phone and a TV, then we recommend getting yourself a laptop.
The choice of a particular model will depend on how much you are willing to spend.
However, if you have a good, high-quality and functional tablet, in the short term you can use it. Apple’s claim that its iPad Pro model can replace a laptop is perhaps the most striking example. However, almost all tablets have a Bluetooth option that allows you to connect an external keyboard or mouse to them. This, of course, is far from an ideal solution, but theoretically it could be a salvation for the next few months.
Laptop for the whole family
Scenario 2: One laptop in the house is used by several people
This is a fairly common situation in households around the world. In a normal situation, buying two laptops for a family of four may seem like an unnecessary luxury, but alternating work, schooling and entertainment on one device requires setting clear schedules – otherwise chaos simply cannot be avoided.
In such a situation, we would recommend buying a new device as soon as possible.
Scenario 3: The laptop does not work as expected, but it looks good
There are many reasons why a laptop might not work properly. Therefore, not understanding the exact reason for the malfunctioning of the device is always very frustrating.
If the laptop stops charging, the ports don’t recognize anything, or the screen goes black, you will definitely have the urge to run to the store and buy a new device.
However, we recommend that you exercise caution and only invest in what you can definitely afford to buy without too much damage to your budget. There are many great budget devices on the market that are guaranteed to help you get the job done, and you can get a great device without harming your bank account.
It is also possible that you want to repair a problem laptop – after all, there are many tips and tricks on the Internet. In particular, special manuals for repairing laptops that stopped turning on or display a black screen.
Scenario 4: Device Needs Repair
If you have tried many potential solutions to a problem you have encountered, but none of them have brought the desired result, you may need to contact a professional to repair your device.
Perhaps experience and technical capabilities will help specialists find a quick and relatively inexpensive solution to a problem – even if you think everything is lost. Actually, many craftsmen take up the job only if they are sure that they can solve the problem.
Depending on where you live, you may encounter certain “quarantine” restrictions that prevent direct contact with the master. However, it is always possible to send a problem laptop to a workshop using dedicated postal services. This means that you may need a “backup” device to operate while your primary laptop is being repaired. And this is something worth considering.
Scenario 5: An Outdated Laptop That May Need a Replacement Soon
This echoes the personal situation of the author of this publication. The laptop he uses is almost six years old, and despite the fact that until now he served the owner faithfully, the age of the device is slowly beginning to make itself felt.
Of course, the question arose about replacing the laptop – and, in particular, about which model to choose:
.Our opinion is that if the laptop can be used for several more months, if programs are still regularly updated on it, it is worth waiting. Over time, the market will calm down, which will make it possible to make a more balanced decision.
If you are still quite satisfied with the existing device, we recommend leaving it. But if its use negatively affects labor productivity, then, apparently, it’s time to buy a new one.
Another thing to consider is if you are planning to change careers in the near future. Perhaps your reliable business laptop will now turn out to be too cool, or vice versa – a light ultrabook simply cannot cope with the tasks assigned to it.
Both of these cases speak in favor of buying a new device, but it might still be worth the wait if in the short term you can handle everything without too many problems.
